Time and a half applies to hours over 40 in a workweek (federal law) — these figures show the overtime hours only, not your regular 40.

How to work out time and a half by hand

  1. Take your hourly rate — say $20.
  2. Multiply by 1.5: $20 × 1.5 = $30/hour. That's your time-and-a-half rate.
  3. Multiply by your overtime hours: 10 hours × $30 = $300.

Common rates at a glance: $15 → $22.50 · $18 → $27 · $20 → $30 · $25 → $37.50 · $30 → $45 · $40 → $60.
